Is abiogenesis a scientific fact?
In general, no. Louis Pasteur provided a death blow to the theory, in three steps. 1/ He demonstrated that the air contains micro-organisms. 2/ He demonstrated that organic substances do not lose their ability to support life, even after prolonged and intense heating. 3/ He allowed purified air to come in contact with broth that had been heated for a long time to destroy any life. As long as the broth was kept free from contamination, no life developed in it, meaning abiogenesis was not possible. However, later experiments have formed amino acids from atmospheric gases, initiated through electrical discharges. The conditions were designed to simulate the original atmospheric conditions of the young Earth. Since amino acids are vital to living carbon-based organisms, these could be considered the first building blocks. But how they combined to form life is still a mystery.
