What Are Veins in Plant Leaves?
A plant gets the water and minerals it needs from the soil. They are absorbed through the roots of the plant. These nutrients, which are the plant’s food, then have to be carried to all parts of the plant. Sap is the liquid that carries the water and minerals, (nutrients) through plants and trees. The circulation of the sap is similar to the circulation of blood in the human body. The sap is carried by capillary vessels, or veins. When the veins grow and reach the edges of leaves, they narrow and spread out so that every part of the leaf is fed. These veins also make a very attractive and unique pattern on the surface of the leaves.
