Why was Mary Queen of Scots such a danger to Elizabeth 1?
Because Elizabeth refused to marry she had no heirs. So her her nearest relative was Mary – Mary was Elizabeth’s cousin (her dad’s sister Margaret was married off to the king of scotland and had Mary). The trouble was Mary was a catholic and England was very unlikely to accept a Catholic queen, remember the religous suffering and wars between catholics and protestants in the UK during Henry viii reign, mary tudor and Elizabeth. Mary was the widow of the brother of the French king – the duc d’orleons. She had allies in France and France was a catholic country too and france very much wanted a catholic king/queen on the english throne.
