What is American Idol?
The show is hosted by former childrens’ game show emcee and television personality Ryan Seacrest. Comedian Brian Dunkleman co-hosted with Seacrest in season one (2002). The American Idol band is led by Rickey Minor. The show usually airs on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the US and Thursday and Friday nights in the UK (two days after the US airing).

In recent years it has become one of the most highly publicized music competitions in the world. American Idol is shown on the Fox Network in the United States which is part of News Corporation. It is created by Simon Fuller (manager of the Spice Girls and S Club 7) and developed by Simon Jones of Thames Television. The directors are Bruce Gowers (director of Queen’s original “Bohemian Rhapsody” video), Nigel and Simon Lythgoe (directors of Survivor) and Ken Warwick (Gladiators and Grudge Match).
