What Is All Hallows Eve ?

0

I asked my Great Aunt and she told me that “All Hallows Eve” meant it was related to the belief that its the one night out of the year that the deceased relatives/friends can return to the land of living and visit for one night. Its similar to the belief that the colonists had. I do have a friend who is a practicing wiccian and her reply was its the one night out of the year that the veil between the world of the living and the world of the dead is at its thinist you can’t physically see the deceased person but you can feel their presence.

Hallowe’en is “All Hallows Eve”. Hallows is an old english word for Holy or Saints so “All Hallows Eve” is All Saints Eve – the evening before All Saints Day, which is the original source of Hallowe’en. All Christians feasts, like All Saints, used to run from sunset to sunset so All Hallows Eve (Hallowe’en) was part of the Christian All Saints Day. Edit: I assume that the “loc” in the address you gave stands for “load of cr*p” as it is almost completely incorrect. I will, however, be notifying the “loc” off their error in accepting neo-pagan myth as fact.

All Hallows Eve is October 31st every year and is the day before All Hallows Day or All Saints Day. It is the day that the dead is allowed to visit the living and communicate with them. This day is called Halloween to most of us.
