Not entirely true. Battleships were made from various types of wood for a few centuries prior to the advent of steel, although they were most often referred to as “ships of the line.” Oak, teak, ironwood, and other types of wood have been used in warship construction (US patrol-torpedo boats were made oh mahogany with a steel superstructure). It is doubtful that peach wood was ever used to build a battleship, but anything is possible. The most dangerous ironclad in the Confederate Navy, CSS Albemarle, was built in a cornfield of green pine covered by iron plate.
