How do you make morter?

There is no such word as “morter” so I presume “mortar” (for building) is implied. Basically this is made by thoroughly mixing 4, 5, or 6 parts of sand with 1 part portland cement, then mixing in just enough clean water to form a workable paste. The lower sand/cement ratio gives a stronger mortar, with a harder finish, wheras weaker mortars will be cheaper and still suitable for bonding a stock brick wall. A little builders lime can also be added to the mortar to improve its plasticity (spreadability) and adhesion, usually for wall plastering. If you buy “plaster sand”, as opposed to “building sand”, this is normally finer grained for better finish and has the lime added.
