What is IRS Form 2848?
Form 2848 allows a taxpayer to assign power of attorney to someone else. This power of attorney deals only with representation before the IRS, and even then only for specific tax forms and years. This will allow the taxpayer’s representative to communicate with the IRS on the taxpayer’s behalf without requiring additional time to communicate with the taxpayer directly. The second part of this form lists the requirements for someone to act as a taxpayer’s representative. This declaration must be signed and dated by the representative for power of attorney to be transferred.
