What are the sources of fluoride? Can my child get too much?
The sources of fluoride are many. They include some prepared foods, toothpaste, mouth rinses, pill or liquid supplements, gels, foams or rinses at the dental office, and your water supply. School programs also can provide a number of fluoride sources. Topical fluoride is that which is put on the teeth, as opposed to systematic fluoride which is swallowed. Your child can get too much fluoride systematically. Excessive systemic fluoride can adversely affect the appearance of your teeth.
