A writeable DVD allows you to record (write) data onto a DVD disc using your PC’s DVD drive.  There are several formats, including DVD-R (DVD-Recordable, which can be used once), DVD-RW and DVD+RW, which can be rewritten multiple times.  Depending on your software settings, you can record video that is compatible with regular DVD players or video that can be played on computers.
