Are air-time rates higher on St. Maarten?
Private resellers of telephone service include businesses such as hotels, answering services, paging, mobile radio, and cellular. In the Caribbean, most local Government-owned telephone companies have not discounted outgoing bulk telephone traffic to resellers. In some instances the costs to the cellular carriers are higher. As a result, subscribers who make overseas calls from cellular phones, will find that the net collected cost (along with Government airtime tax) will always result in cellular toll rates that are higher than comparable land-line rates.
