What is a Health Coach?
A health coach is someone who will provide counseling, information, support and guidance on ways to maintain the best possible health while living with a chronic illness. Because each of us is unique in how illness affects us and our relationships, the support will include collaboration with your partner and perhaps your doctor to develop a plan of treatment specific to the needs of seeking and maintaining a healthy life style. This support is not meant to replace the services or advice from your physician. Always contact your doctor if you feel you need medical advice or treatment. A therapeutic alliance is beneficial in order to help individuals and couples develop insight into their emotions. In identifying health problems, concerns and risk factors, a health coach can help you better manage stress in your life and your relationship. Health Support Groups are successful in sharing individual and couple concerns surrounding a particular diagnosis.
