where go the flies in the winter?
Most flies head for Fly Island in the winter months, which is a small island in the Bahamas (with no human inhabitants). There are numerous, inexpensive hotels for them to stay in, many of which have such amenities as maggot day care centers, so that their parents can go to the various amusement parks and other sites on the island, such as Garbageland. If you want a serious answer, many types of flies die-off in the winter, many other types find shelter in the warmth of abandoned buildings and such where they go into a sort-of “fly hibernation”, others merely become “sluggish” and can still be seen in many occupied homes (and are therefore easily “swatted”), others can be seen still hanging around warm farm animals, and so on. There are so many kinds of flies, that no one answer can do your question justice! Just because you personally don’t always see them in the winter, doesn’t mean that they’re still not around! Do I hear buzzing?
