Next door neighbours tree?
Firstly you need to speak to your neighbour and make him aware of the problem (friendly or not) this could be done in person or in writing. In person (friendliest option) and then in writing (for legal reasons) is probably best. Secondly you must contact your local council, who in turn will contact him and after inspection of the tree and damage to your house will in all likely hood make him remove the tree and make him responsible for the repairs on your house (probably his insurance will have to take care of this). This is usually enough to resolve the matter, however if it does not then, yes your next course of action is a solicitor. Most important that you keep a copy of the the letter you sent your neighbour and anything he has sent you, and all correspondence with the council. Take photos of the offending tree and damage to your house.
