What is husbandry anyway?

Husbandry refers to all things relative to owning and raising your goats, from feeding to bedding, shots to breeding, pets to toys. Bedding- never use cedar shavings as bedding for pygmy goats. They get very sick. Use white shavings or straw, or nothing at all if they have raised beds to sleep in up away from the floor. Speaking of the floor, what does it smell like? If it is a heavy smell of ammonia it can make your goats very sick too. Use an ammonia inhibitor such as STALL DRY or SWEET PDZ on the floor until the smell is elliminated. Cleaning out the animal’s sleeping area at least once a week (or more as needed) will also help them be heathy. I use white shavings exclusively because the wet straw is too hard to pick up and takes too long to break down once it gets wet. Toys- think of your goats as little toddlers and protect them from themselves! If there is a way for a small pygmy to get into trouble, it will find it! Inspect all structures for soundness and think SAFETY at all ti
