What is a maceration?

A maceration, or ‘infusion’, is obtained by soaking dried herbs in olive oil for eight weeks or more. The herbs are strained out. Olive oil is known as the oil that can best absorb the healing properties of plants. PS: the same process, but where oil is replaced by alcohol, gives a ‘tincture’.
