Why subsidize song and dance?
• Multicultural festivals and performances let Canadians share their traditions with other Canadians. • Such festivals bring together Canadians of diverse backgrounds and communities to meet each other and work together. • Most of such activities, however, are funded by communities, local government and corporate sponsorship, or are self supporting. In many regions, multicultural festivals are valued tourist attractions Since the early 1970’s, Canada has seen many changes in how governments and communities approach diversity. Many provinces now have their own multiculturalism policies and programs; some support cultural and artistic events.
