What’s ahead for machining?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about a third of all machining jobs are located in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin and the demand for machinery is expected to remain strong. Many of today’s workers are reaching retirement age meaning that a significant number of job openings will become available. A recent survey, conducted by Michigan Works! Berrien-Cass-Van Buren and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, projected more than 1,200 are job openings in the manufacturing sector over next 10 years. “There are jobs to be had right now in our area,” Ken stated. “If you’re dependable, educated and can hit the floor running, companies are looking for you. I know of plants that have to turn down work because they don’t have enough skilled labor to get the job done.” If you’re interested in pursuing a career in machine tool technology, contact Ken Flowers at (269) 927-8100 ext. 3032.
