What is the difference between spam and a hoax?
Hoax virus messages or hoax alerts are actually spam emails that were never actually scanned by any virus protection program…it’s a virus email that lies about being from a virus scan. Basically it’s impossible to trace. It didn’t actually come from the said email address, the said email address doesn’t exist (the from one) it was created. For instance, if “your business email domain is bbb.com”…you may get an email from “mary@bbb.com”, which of course, doesn’t exist. But you can’t tell where it came from, because it uses a different smtp (outgoing) server. So, using that example above, your friend, “John” could have the virus and from his Pc send emails out that show they are from “mary”@bbb.com, and actually go thru the outgoing server smtp.mail.xxx (which he doesn’t even have access to). So you can see, they are impossible to trace…just have to delete them and install a program to quarantine or remove the virus emails. If you send a virus from your pc, you will not get an auto
