How should SEN be dealt with in the plan?
Activities in support of raising attainment of those who have SEN are a very important part of the plan. Both the Department and OFSTED will be looking closely to see that the approval criteria (appendix 2) relating to SEN are successfully met by all LEAs. The expectation is that actions in support of raising achievement of those with SEN will be found under almost all EDP2 priorities unless the LEA has chosen to brigade them under one priority heading. If the national priority of narrowing the attainment gap/tackling underachievement is being adopted as written, then this priority will of course contain a number of SEN activities, but it is recommended that all LEAs check carefully to ensure that this key theme is covered appropriately across the plan as a whole.
