What are microarrays used for?
Originally microarrays were used to detect changes in the transcription levels of different genes in different samples. As genes that are transcribed are said to be expressed these are called expression arrays. The The MicroArray Quality Control (MAQC) did a lot of work in 2006 to evaluate different microarray platforms. Microarrays are now used for a variety of applications including: • Genetic analyses such as: SNP gennotyping, copy number and loss of heterozygosity (LOH). • Chromatin Immunoprecipitation (ChIP) to determine where transcription factors are binding the genome. • Transcriptome arrays to determine where the genome is being transcribed.
