How does the card work?
A consumer/cardholder shops at a participating business. The cardholder pays for their purchase using any form of payment cash, check, bank debit or credit card and then has their SmartTown Alliance card swiped through the card reader. The rebate is shared equally by the consumer and their non-profit of choice, less program administration costs.
Here’s how to make a purchase: • Simply present your card. • Sign the sales receipt. • Take your receipt and you’re done! The funds used to make the purchase are taken directly out of your primary checking account, usually within 1-3 days, so there are no bills to pay later. (Back to top) Provide your card to a qualified merchant or provider, and they will swipe your card like any other credit card to pay for your purchase. You must select “credit” if offered the choice between credit and debit during the transaction. If you are asked for a personal identification number (PIN), ask the merchant to process it as a credit card since no PIN is assigned. Funds for eligible expenses will be transferred directly to the provider or merchant from your healthcare and/or dependent care account. Please ask for an itemized receipt in case it is required for substantiation. An itemized receipt should include the date of service, name and address of the provider, the cost and description of the service provided.
The card comes with local access number, toll free access number and a PIN number. All you have to do is dial the access number and follow the prompt. You will be asked to enter your PIN number and you will get a recording telling you the balance on your card, after that you will be asked to enter your destination number, if you are calling in North America, dial 1+ area code + phone number, for overseas calls dial 011+ country code + phone number. After dialing the destination number you will get the prompt telling you how many minutes you will be able to speak to your destination.
