What is the DAN DL7 file?
A dive computer export file is not a DL7 file and most DL7 export files are not even true DL7 files. The DL7 specification was written by Dr. Petar J. Denoble of the Divers’ Alert Network (DAN) in 1997. The most recent specification file, dated July 7, 2004, is really a specification for three formats. These formats are called Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Level 1, also called ZXU export, is the simplest format, Level 2 is an intermediate format, and Level 3 is the most complete and sophisticated. DAN DL7 ScubaLink is capable of reading all three formats. The amount of information derived from each format is different and, therefore, yields more or less information into ScubaTrak. Level 3 files contain a tremendous amount of information about the diver. This information ranges from personal details, to the dive profile, to medical data, as well as other medical/physiological data.
