What is TTS?
TTS is an abbreviation of the Text-To-Speech conversion system. Originally, TTS synthesizes speech as its output when a text is accessed as its input. In other words, when a text is accessed, the TTS changes the text into a string of phonetic symbols and the corresponding basic synthetic units are retrieved from the pre-prepared database. Then the TTS concatenates the synthetic units to synthesize the output speech with the rule-generated prosody.
TTS, or text-to-speech, is the digitized audio rendering of computer text into speech. TTS software can “read” text from a document, Web page or e-Book, generating synthesized speech through a computer’s speakers. TTS programs can be useful for a variety of applications. For example, with TTS OFF you would hear In 300 yards turn left, while with TTS ON you would hear In 300 yards turn left on 1st Street.
