What are SRV records?
The DNS includes a number of records that define different attributes for a domain name, such as an IP address, a string of text, or a mail route. The SRV record (also known as a Service record) can be used for connecting to a SIP user in a similar way that an MX record helps email delivery. When somebody wants to make a SIP phone call to you at “name@yourdomain.com”, the SRV record might tell his/her computer that it should connect to “dns.tekea.com” to do so. The SRV records enable you to have a single public “SIP address” which can be redirected at will to your current location.
