What does hanyou mean?
Hanyou means “half-breed” in English. This is why you see it so often in Inuyasha fanfics. Inuyasha is a hanyou, a half-demon, as opposed to his brother Sesshomaru, who is a youkai (full demon). The word neko, which actually means “cat”, is often used to refer to a cat demon, such as Kirara, or some other sort of cat person. In a lot of fan drawings, you often see girls and guys sporting cat-like ears and tails. These are also nekos. As for suffixes like kun, san, sama, & chan, these are attached to the end of names to show your relationship to a person. Kun is attached to the end of the names of people, usually males, around the same age as you or who you are particularly close to – more often than not a boyfriend or simply a boy a girl is crushing on. San is attached at the end of a name as a sign of general respect. San is pretty much the equivilant of Mr. or Mrs. in English speaking countries.
