How will the vouchers Ive heard about to purchase an HDTV converter box work?

This is a very confusing topic. The vouchers are not for an HDTV converter. The vouchers are for a digital television tuner (not HDTV, just digital). First, regardless of what you’ve heard, the only people who will need this digital converter on February 17, 2009 are the people who receive their television signal with an antenna. If you have cable or satellite, this does not apply to you. I have heard stories of people claiming to represent local cable companies cold calling people and telling customers “You must upgrade to digital cable by 2009 or your tv will not work.” This is completely false. The digital tv switch has absolutely nothing to do with cable or satellite. The FCC is changing the way tv is broadcast over-the-air. They can condense the tv signals into a smaller space using the newer digital broadcasting. Once they have done this they are going to sell off all that new empty space. From
