Why do we have ranks aboard the Callisto?

0

As in any club, a ladder of success is often beneficial to provide motivation and achievement of greater glory. In the military, ranks are necessary to establish a chain of command. Therefore, since members who join the Callisto are joining the Colonial Military, they are subjected to the same rank structure as seen in Battlestar Galactica. Generally, new members start at the very bottom and work their way up. With individual initiative, they may be elected to higher command positions by their peers during squadron elections or, in exceptional cases, they may be offered a promotion by Core Command for action and services above and beyond the call of duty combined with time of service. However, this is very rare and is only offered to those individuals who have shown exemplary devotion and duty to the cause over time.
