There are two art museums in Ueno Park, Tokyo – the National Museum of Western Art (NMWA) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. The NMWA was established in 1959 around the core Matsukata Collection as Japan’s museum specializing in Western art. The Main Building was designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. It has an excellent website (in English), found here: http://www.nmwa.go.jp/en/index.html The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum used to be the residence of Prince Asaka, the eighth son of Prince Kuni, but was re-opened as an art museum in 1983, specialising in Art Deco.
