What is “weightlessness”?

0

A. Weight is the pull of gravity on something, your body for instance. The earth’s gravity becomes weaker as you move away from it, but it is never zero. An astronaut is not “weightless” because there is no gravity in space; the gravity in near-earth space is almost as great as gravity on the surface of the earth. Astronauts are “weightless” because they are falling to earth as they orbit around it, so there is nothing pushing upward on their feet.

Weightlessness is when you are not affected by gravity. Your body floats and feels like it does not weight anything at all. You mostly experience this in outer space.
