What is present day Camelot?
The shining city of Camelot of our legends sadly never actually existed – it’s the mythical city that King Arthur is supposed to have built. The sad fact is that the legends of King Arthur are largely just that – legends. There is very little solid fact about the guy and if he did exist then he was almost certainly not like the figure we are familiar with from mythology. In the legends Camelot is supposed to have stood where modern day Glastonbury is today in the west of England. There is supposed to have been a sixth century monastery on the Tor of Glastonbury that was at the edges of our world and the mystical world of Avalon. I’m not sure if anything remains of that monastery today. It was supposed to have been founded by Joseph of Arimathea who came to Britain after Jesus was crucified. This is how the legend of the Holy Grail came about – it was said that Joseph of Arimathea brought it to Britain and hid it somewhere around the area of Glastonbury which is why the monastery was fo
