Does marijuana affect acne?
In one of my classes working on their Masters degree, the term project was studying the relationship of teen use of marijuana and skin problems (not specifically acne per se). However, our results were conclusive that there is a definite correlation of 15 and 16 year olds hormonal reactions to the THC in marijuana. The liver is a filter and is already dealing with normal pubescent issues. When factors of marijuana usage are added the liver sometimes can not expel it from the body. It then has to release the chemical through the hair and nail follicle Dependant upon the excessive usage the chemical can also be pushed out through our skin, after all our skin is a breathing organ. The study showed an increase of oils in the skin as it pushes the foreign substance out of the body. The high concentration of oils increased the acne.
