What is GK?
It is an acronym for Gawad Kalinga, directly translated as “giving care “. GK is defined by the three levels of transformation that take place in the lives of those that it touches. The first level: Restoring Dignity and Hope. The poor, who have nothing materially, also have nothing spiritually. They hold no hope in the future because their day-to-day existence is never certain and miserable. Hope and Dignity are the first gifts they receive through GK. Their perspective in life is changed and therefore their lives become better. The second level: Transformation The physical transformation from slums and shanties to clean beautiful homes with hygienic surroundings is made possible through GK. The accompanying attitude transformation allows them to become law abiding citizens, who become respectful, compassionate, generous of their blessings, and turn away from vices.
