Is the Issels Treatment FDA-approved?
The Issels Treatment is a comprehensive program and not one single drug or treatment modality. One component, the extracorporeal photopheresis with the dendritic cell vaccine, is FDA approved for cutaneous T cell lymphoma. It is only available to a very limited number of patients in a few US leading cancer centers. We have administered it not only to lymphomas, but also to a variety of solid tumors. One decisive difference is that we do not offer one “magic bullet” by itself, but integrate each modality into a comprehensive treatment plan designed to restore the body’s overall cancer fighting mechanisms. When cancer is attacked, it is very important to help the body eliminate the toxic products of the tumor break down. Each one of our modalities is scientifically validated, but not FDA approved as cancer treatment.
