Does ancestry.com cost $?
The US subscription, with census images, is around $159 a year, if you pay by the year. That’s about $13 a month. Cable TV and Satellite TV cost more. $13 is what some (rich) people spend on lunch if they go to the restaurant that is close to the office. It is what some people spend for a week’s worth of lunches, too. There are free sites, but Ancestry has more data. I find the census and newspaper archives to be invaluable. But, I’m a serious amateur, and I’d rather hunt dead ancestors than watch “Seinfeld” reruns. If you only watched a movie once every month, you’d be silly to sign up for HBO. If you have a 60-inch screen and your own popcorn machine, because movies are your favorite thing to do, you’d be silly not to. Ancestry is the same; if you have been bitten by the genealogy bug, you should get it. If you just wonder who your great grandparents are, you should not.
