In Mars the climate is hot ,cold or windy?
Howdy! Thanks for good question about the Martian climate. The warmest measured Martian temperature ever (at the equator, in summer, warmest time of day, etc.) was about 80 degrees F. Martian high temps are typically about the same as the Northeast U.S. has been experiencing the last week (i.e., pretty bitterly cold). Nightime temperatures for Spirit are -100 degrees F or lower, and that’s in late summer! It’s only going to get colder. Largely, Mars frigid climate is a result of its greater distance from the sun and its thin atmosphere. Speaking of the Martian atmosphere, it is windy on Mars, though the wind has little force to blow you over, since the atmosphere is so thin. Wind speeds above 50 mph are not uncommon on the red planet. Thanks!
