Which problems can occur with the VMM board (Mass Memory) ?
The VMM board of the SPLC uses the DOS filesystem. This by itself (as most others) does not offer protection against sudden loss of power, if there are any files open. This may (but must not necessarily) lead to files, which may be partially unreadable or even complete lost and may cause unusable disk space on the VMM board. To avoid this situation, it is stronly recommended to close all open file before powering down the SPLC. In case this mishap has occured in spite of this, e.g. due to sudden power outage, you can use the “scandisk” tool, which will be provided to you as part of the SW delivery. This “repairs” the filesystem as far as possible and recovers lost space on the disk. However, it might not recover all files in all cases.
