Is Montessori Elitist?
No. Montessori is an educational philosophy and approach that can be found in all sorts of settings, from the most humble to large, well-equipped campuses. In general, Montessori schools consciously strive to create and maintain a diverse student body, welcoming families of every ethnic background and religion, and using scholarships and financial aid to keep their school accessible to deserving families. Montessori is also found in the public sector as magnet public school programs, Head Start centers, and as charter schools.
I would love to place my oldest son in a Montessori school, it’s awonderful alternative way to learn for a child who is not thriving in atraditional school setting. We unfortunately cannot afford the tuition.
It greatly disturbs me that the tuition is so extremely expensive. It’squite unfair to families who don’t fall into the required financialbracket that these schools dictate. Such schools should be more tuitionreasonable and open to more diversity. With the economy as it is today, tuition and financial aid and so called scholarships are hard to come by. I think it’s shameful that theMontessori program has become so elitist and excluding.
