What are Mental Health Services?
Children and young people up to 18 years with emotional, psychological and psychiatric distress can get help through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). Health and social care services, education and the voluntary sector work in partnership to assess and treat emotional, behavioural and developmental disorders in the young person, delivering local services through a variety of settings. Most young people with acute mental illness are treated in the community but, in extreme cases, in-patient services are available. In the case of adults, we provide advice and support to assist people who are experiencing mental ill health in a way that promotes their independence and enables them to get on with their lives. We encourage social inclusion for people experiencing mental ill health and their carers by promoting mental health and emotional wellbeing.
