Do paramedics transport corpses?
Regular paramedics do not transport people who are dead. When a body has been found & appears to be dead, the police must call the coroner, who is a medical doctor paid to do this ( in some remote areas, not all coroners are MDs but they still must give permission for the body to be removed). The bodies are taken back to the Medical Examiners facility & autopsies are done, as they must all be done in violent or unexplained deaths. In some cases, like Nursing Homes & hospice cases, where the patients are expected to die, Registered Nurses may pronounce patients. They then call the Funeral Homes, who pick up the bodies. As an EMT, you will not “pick up the pieces”. However you may be called to some really bad auto accidents, so if you have a fragile stomach, maybe you better think about it again & consider a calmer occupation, like x-ray tech. That way you won’t face too much trauma.
