Who is Parallax?
During the “Death Of Superman” arc, a new villain known as the Cyborg, in collusion with Superman’s foe Mongul, launched an attack on Hal Jordan’s hometown of Coast City. The city was completely destroyed, killing seven million people. Although his wife and best friend were out of town when Coast City was destroyed, Hal was driven insane with grief at the loss of his hometown and nearly everyone he knew. He attempted to use his ring to resurrect Coast City and its inhabitants. While he had the will to do it, the ring simply did not have enough power. Hal petitioned the Guardians, asking for the power to re-create his city. When they refused him, Hal traveled to Oa, home of the Guardians, the Green Lantern Corps, and the Central Green Lantern Power Battery, with the intent of taking the power by force.
