Most freight trains are deisel / electric. They are fueled by either a fuel truck (tractor trailer) or out of a bulk storage tank. The fuels tanks on the engine are very large and generally take up nearly the entire underside between the wheels. The larger “wide body” engines can hold 6,000 gallons of fuel.
