Is it hard to become a Pediatrician?
Yes, it’s hard. Not as hard as some medical specialties, but all of them are pretty tough. It’s not 10+ years of school (at least in the US). There’s four years of college and then four years of medical school, followed by three years of residency (more if you plan to specialize). The years in residency, while not technically school, are still training and you make a fairly low salary and work a large number of hours (80/week). Medical school is expensive. Some state programs are still pretty good bargains, if you are a resident of that state. My state school is just under $20,000/year for residents and $33,000/year for non-residents. Private schools can go as high as $50,000/year and probably average somewhere in the high 30s. This is just tuition–it doesn’t take into account living expenses, books, equipment, transportation, etc.
