Why is coir better than peat moss?

0

Coir is pH neutral, while peat moss can be highly acidic. Acidic soil can kill plants by hurting their roots and disrupting nutrient uptake. Coconut husk fibers are a sustainable resource, and harvesting peat moss is harmful to the environment. The plants that produce peat can take thousands of years to grow a cubic foot. Because of this, peat moss is being harvested at faster rate than it grows back and wildlife habitat is being lost. Coco fibers are chemical and seed free. On the other hand, peat moss can contain weed seeds, accumulated chemicals from runoff, twigs, and colonies of anaerobic bacteria. Sphagnum peat moss is often treated with “wetting agents” – these are chemicals that help it absorb water but they can also harm certain plants. Each wafer of Coco Fiber weighs 3.7 ounces (105 grams) and makes 2 quarts (1.89 Liters) of potting soil.

Coco Coir is much better than peat moss. Because coco coir is an Eco-Friendly product which is beneficial for plant growth. It has balanced pH value while on other hand peat moss is acidic. It decrease the growth rate of plants. It also makes the soil non fertile. I am using Bioactive coco peat in my garden due to which my plants became more healthy.
