Is HE laundry soap better?

In my opinion, HE soap is a ripoff. I used it for awhile, then switched to a regular powdered soap, and reduced the quantity, and got excellent results in a front loader. Liquid regular detergents sudsed too much, so I preferred powders. If you use a long enough wash cycle, you can use a pretty inexpensive detergent and get great results–I ended up using Purex products. Now I notice you say TE (top loader?). Why do you have so much sudsing? You should reduce the amount of soap you use. You may also be able to find a low-sudsing regular detergent, although I don’t have any specific recommendations. I live in a very hard water area and now have a top loader. I use Tide powder (because my favorite, Purex, isn’t available here). I use about 1/2 a scoop, plus 1/2 a scoop of borax powder (for cheap water softening) per load.
