How did the Baltimore Orioles baseball team originate?
The current Baltimore Oriole franchise is a member of the original eight teams that began play when the American League became a major league in 1901. In 1901, the team played in Milwaukee as the Brewers. The following season they relocated to St. Louis and played as the Browns. They were in St. Louis from 1902-1953. They then relocated to Baltimore in 1954 and have played there ever since. Ironically, Baltimore had one of those original eight teams that started play in 1901. Two years later that team relocated to New York and played as the Highlanders, later to be known as the Yankees.
