What are the duties of an MRT?
The intent of the MRT program is to increase the reading ability of Texas school children, particularly those on identified high-need campuses, by encouraging teachers to become certified as master reading teachers. During the course of regular school days, the MRT teaches students and mentors fellow teachers regarding student reading problems. Districts assign an MRT to perform these duties on an identified high-need campus and schedule the MRT’s classes and mentoring activities in conformance with the definitions set forth in the Commissioner’s Rules.
