Certain types of industrial activities are prescribed for regulation to control pollution under either: • Part I of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, • Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 (and the Environmental Permitting(England and Wales) Regulations 2007 that came into force on 6th April 2008). Operators of prescribed activities must apply to the regulatory authority for an authorisation or permit to operate the activities. Applications have to be made available (via the Council’s website or by advertising in a local newspaper) for public consultation.
