As you say, it is well known that apple pips contain cyanide. Technically, this isn’t quite true: they contain a cyanide precursor (that is a compound which when metabolised by the body will produce cyanide). The cyanide produced in this way is, indeed, toxic and in sufficient quantity would poison a person. However, the quantity of cyanide-producing compounds found in a single apple pip is absolutely miniscule and it would be necessary to consume an enormous number of apple pips in a short space of time (because the cyanide which is produced by a few pips will be metabolised by the body and cease to be present as a toxic compound after a fairly short period of time) in order to accumulate a sufficiently large dose to have any health implications. So, in summary, apple pips do contain compunds which emit poison when they are eaten, but the quantities are so small that it’s not going to do you any harm if you eat a few (or even quite a large number) apple pips every day.
