Do dairy products increase congestion?
This is a very controversial idea that has been around for a long time. Probably about a third of pediatricians believe that dairy products can cause or aggravate congestion in children already suffering with a stuffy or runny nose, but there’s no scientific evidence to support the idea. These doctors think very young infants are especially prone to congestion because they may be lactose-intolerant. If you suspect this is the case with your child, you might try soy formula; it’s just as good as the cows’ milk-based version and costs about the same.
